Hey there!

This week I am sharing something a little different: an article posted by my University's newspaper, The Plainsman. I am so honored to be published in the fashion issue of the paper, and had the wonderful opportunity of being interviewed by Hannah Lester for the article. I loved getting back to why I started the blog, and had so much just recapping what blogging means to me. Thinking about it more though, it honestly reminded me why Hailey Daily has continued to evolve over the years: because the constant of fashion and style have stayed important to me. However, one thing I have lost sight of is the importance of staying rooted in genuine content, and not so being so involved in numbers and followings. Over the years, I have become more and more obsessed with growth and becoming a bigger, better blogger. Although having goals and ambition is obviously great, I have somewhat lost sight of my overarching goal that inspired me to start Hailey Daily almost four years ago: to share my outfit ideas on a creative platform that allows me to inspire others. I have become more and more concerned with growing a big following and having taken a step back after reading the article, I realized that I want to be more invested in my followers ability to relate to me and my style. I want to be more genuine. I want to care less about numbers and more about people. I want to be inspired by others work, and not by their stats. I want to go back to when I didn't stress out if I didn't post every single day. When I started Hailey Daily I didn't tell a soul, and I was doing it purely to have a creative outlet. I didn't intend for it to be something everyone or even anyone ever knew about, and it surely wasn't something I wanted to create a business or even side-gig out of. It was simply for me. Today, it still is for me, but I put a lot of pressure on myself about collaborations and whether people will like the content or not. I don't want to be driven by that, but rather by my own intuition and love for fashion. That's it.  

So, having said all of that: I hope you that you will still follow along on my journey, and that you will hold me to this. I want to be on a platform that allows me to do nothing more than share who I am and what I love. I want to be more than just a blogger and influencer, I want to be present, in my life and on my blog and not stress about that.

life update

Hey there!

I stumbled across this photo on Instagram the other day (@bymariandrew has seriously the greatest feed..go check it out) and I felt like nothing more relevant could exist right now (that describes me at least).  I cannot believe that I've only lived in Auburn for a month now...it feels like it has more like three! I absolutely love this beautiful city and I fall more and more in love with its every day. From the people, to the quirky little spots I find for lunch (*ahem* Crepe Myrtle Cafe..you are my fave), I find more reasons to love this place I now call home every day. School has been surprisingly easy to get the hang of. The campus is large and I have gotten lost a couple times, but besides that it has been nothing less than lovely. I have never experienced so many fun nights out with such lively people.

Unfortunately though, I would be lying if everything I had to say was happiness and rainbows. The line that depicts moving to a new city is pretty accurate. The first part is a large high, filled with fun new and exciting adventures and new beginnings, and then it turns into loneliness and stagnant nights. Its not the kind of loneliness where people aren't around you, because they are, but more of a in-a-crowded-room-and-no-one-sees-you type of loneliness. The kind that isn't fixed with calls home or weekend visits (because lets be honest, that makes it worse) but only fixed with time. It has taken a while, but I am finally starting to feel at home in Auburn. Work (that honestly intimidated me) and just like the line above, goes up and down every day. One day you are happy, smiling, helpful Hailey and the next you are grumpy, Monday-morning, can't-do-this Hailey. Its up and down. 

Happiness is something that I feel a little more and more each day and I just wanted to share how this "something good for me" is on a steadily incline up, and though I may not know it now, my life is definitely moving in the right direction and I'm so excited for that. I am thankful for the friendships I feel blossoming, the job that continues to brighten my day, and the school that is constantly amazing me with its extraordinary spirit. Though each day has its trials and tribulations, I'm looking on the bright side of life.

Hey guys!

I am super excited to be sharing with y'all something that I have been doing over the past week. I have always wanted whiter teeth at it is something that I feel just instantly makes your smile that much prettier. I have tried whiting toothpastes, Crest white stripes (and I could never keep them on for more than 5 minutes lol), whiting mouth wash, and nothing has ever worked for me. I have always wanted to try professional teeth whitening, but I could never get myself to pay the insane amount that it costs (usually around $650-ouch!) So, I was super excited to give in home trays a try since I have always heard good things about them. Smile Brilliant is an amazing company that shows instant (really.. it is insane) and long term teeth whiting results. In this blog post I wanted to break down a step by step run through of what all is included in the kit, how much it costs, and what actual results look like! When you receive your box in the mail, it will include the following items: 2 trays for your impressions, 3/6/9 (depending on your package) syringes, 3 sets of paste, and instructions. 

There will be two blue trays included in your box that you will use to create your impressions. The instruction guide below gives detailed instructions on how you do so.

Once you use the two pastes (above) and mix them together to create the mold, you will put it inside of the tray and place the tray inside of your mouth to create the impression and you hold it there for the top and the bottom for 2 minutes. One extra set of paste are included in you mess up, which is a nice little security blanket. Once you are done with that, you will let it sit out for a while and harden. Once it has hardened you will then run cold water over it and then you will let it dry. Once dry, there is an envelope included with a return label included for you to mail the impressions to them. After you send in your impressions it takes about 3-5 business days to receive your whiting trays!

 Once you receive your trays back they will come in a protecting container, as seen below.

To begin the process of whiting, you must first begin with the green syringe. You will first cut off the end piece of the syringe and then begin to squirt the gel in a thin strip along the bottom inside of each tray. Make sure you distribute it evenly and then insert both trays correctly. You will need to leave the trays in for anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Obviously the best results will come from leaving the trays in the longest amount of time you can, but results will begin to show no matter what! I feel that leaving them in for about an hour and a half was most realistic and worth while for me! After this you will remove the trays and rinse them out and drying them very well before either putting them back in the case or using the desensitizing gel. 

After you have rinsed the tray out and it is completely dry, you will then repeat the process but this time with the purple syringe. This syringe is intended to protect your teeth from feeling irritated from the whiting gel. This can make a huge difference for those of you who have sensitive teeth! I personally have sensitive teeth and I have used whiting strips and it irritated my teeth so incredibly much! The desensitizing gel works so well and I could tell when I hadn't used it long enough! You must leave this set in for approximately 15 minutes for it to be effective.

Tooth sensitivity is a common problem that is easy to avoid when whiting, which you can read more about here :)

Finally, here are my real results after 7 sessions!

I saw noticeably whiter teeth after just a couple sessions, but the difference is clearly there after a full week of using Smile Brilliant! A Mint Macaroon

Hey there!

 I hope you have had a great start to your week! If you are in school, that hump of newness and excitement is now long gone, and the reality that is exam and tests has sunk in. For me, that has officially happened and I am missing home more than ever. If you watched my snapchat (if you don't, what are you doing with your life... Snap: haileydailyxo), you already know about these cute prints from A Mint Macaroon, and how excited I am to share them with y'all! I have never found such cute prints (at such great prices, too)! My absolute favorite of the three (even though it is impossible to pick, because they are all so cute) would have to be the Augusta print, which she made custom (and can do for you.. any city you can think of people) for me. I actually selected the verbiage that is inside of the print, so things that meant a little more to me got priority over some other things that may have meant more to someone else from the city. The Hailey Daily print is another custom print, and I chose it specifically with hopes that it would pair well with the other too, and boy, did she get it right! I don't have anything in my room that has my blog name on it, so it seemed like an obvious choice! Finally,the Dare to Begin print speaks to me on a whole other level. In moving to Auburn my entire experience has felt like a new beginning, like I'm being dared to begin. My Makeup Brush Set

Makeup Brush Kit

Hey there!

I am so excited to be reviewing this brush kit from My Brush Set! I have recently been more interested in makeup and figuring out what works for my face and how I can enhance my features. After watching countless Youtube videos (yes, I am that girl...well maybe everyone does it but I watch like 50 in one sitting LOL) I decided to try out a cream contouring kit. Upon doing so I quickly realized how its not just the palate that I needed (oh no, with make up its never just one thing its ALL the things), I needed brushes, too! I am kind of a weirdo when it comes to spending money on makeup-especially on brushes. I don't know what it is but I hate spending money on something if I'm not 100% sure that it is going to get the job done. That's why when I was given the opportunity to test out these brushes I had to jump on it! 

 To begin I'll start by using the largest brush (1) to blend in my foundation. Then, I applied the cream contour. Next, I used the second largest brush (2) to blend in the contour around my cheeks and the middle of my face. I then used the medium sized brushes (3) & (4) to blend in my concealer. Finally, I used one of the smaller oval sized brushes (5) to blend in my nose and my chin. I used brushes I used brushes 6-10 for my shadow and to blend in, (7) being for the crease and (9) for the inner corner and below the brow. Normally I don't do anything below my lower lash line, but the (8) would be great for applying shadow there. I love them because they are SO soft and blend so well. Not to mention this entire brush set retails for over $350 and they are currently selling for only $39.99 (that's a HUGE deal, y'all!) I have never been able to find an oval kit for that cheap and for the amazing quality that My Makeup Brush Kit. Also, I noticed that using the brush kit cut down my time the time I was spending trying to blend in with a beauty blender. Definitely way more efficient! I found some great tutorials via Youtube just by searching Oval Brush Set, if you are a visual learner like me :)

Hey there!

Oh my. This post has been one that has been in the works for quite a while.... I have contemplated making a post like this for quite some time and it just never came together like I'd hoped. Finally, I have completed one and I am so excited that I did. Unlike other posts I've seen comparing save vs. splurge I wanted to tell you guys some of the mistakes I have made when it comes to purchasing items that I thought were going to have substantial place in my wardrobe and then just didn't. I guess you could call it the dos and don'ts of purchases for your wardrobe*.

Before I truly begin breaking down these items I wanted to point out that when creating this post I mainly geared it towards the 16-25 age group who are working on creating a wardrobe**. From my experience (falling in the middle of this age bracket) this is a hard age in which trendy items come before substantial wardrobe building pieces. But this could apply to anyone who finds interest in it :)
Having said that.. lets begin!

*Any time you see a ($) that means that I recommend spending less rather than more ($$$)

1. Blanket Scarves ($)

So, we have all seen them. They have worked their way from the runways to the little boutiques in your home town. They are huge, they make for awesome gifts, and also staples in your closet! For this purchase I would recommend you spend less. Though I feel like they are a great piece for your wardrobe, whether you live where temps are only 65 in the winter or they are in the 30s you know you will try and wear one of these at least once. And for the prices you can find them for... I think its worth it. But I don't recommend spending more than $40 on it. The ones I've spent that much on I definitely regretted it afterwards.

2. Floppy Hat ($)

For this one I would definitely recommend not spending more than $30 on. You will always find one cheaper. Target has them, cheap stores in the mall have them, Old Navy has them. I rest my case, literally everyone has them so don't spend too much on them. I have had mine from target for 2 years now and I truly believe you cannot tell one bit that it is that old.

3. Tops ($ and $$$)

This one is a little bit of both and it is also a little bit self explanatory. When it comes to tops you see yourself wearing all the time: turtlenecks under vests, vnecks, sweaters. It always outweighs the money you didn't spend in the years you can wear them. You.will.wear.them.all.the.time. For instance, this top was $58..which is alot of money for a white vneck if you ask me. But when I evaluated it at the store I thought of 3 ways I could wear it and then decided that it was in my best interest to purchase the expensive version rather than a cheap version that would fall apart after one season. Many times for shirts I will buy the cheap version if I can only think of one or two ways that I can wear it. Hanging your clothes instead of washing them will help keeping them looking new for longer. Many pieces that I have from forever 21 I do this with because I may only wear them once or twice but I still want them to look nice.

4. Jewelry ($ and $$$)

There are two categories when it comes to jewelry: costume and fine jewelry. Today I am only talking about costume because fine jewelry would obviously be $$$$. Costume jewelry to me is something that you have to evaluate personally. I have made the mistake many times spending too much on a necklace I can only wear a couple times or even goes out of style too quickly. For instance, I feel that statement necklaces had their day and now aren't as big as they once were. Now I have a bunch of them that I paid a pretty good amount on and do not want to wear anymore. Although this is the nature of fashion and its ever changing ways, I sometimes wish I would have either purchased less or paid less for them. When it comes to necklaces if it is costume jewelry you are going to wear everyday, always invest in the nicer one. For instance, my necklace that I wear every single day is Tiffany's, and I do not regret this purchase one bit. However, I spent more than I would have liked to on my monogram necklace which I wear much less. I would wait at least a month and every day when you get dressed analyze whether the piece would match what you are wearing.


5. Purses and Cross-body's ($$$)

This one to me is always one that will be worth the money. You use this every.single.day. You want it to hold up, to not fall apart. To me, much like you can tell a lot about a man by his shoes, you can tell a lot about a woman by her purse. This doesn't mean you have to spend an insane amount of money on a purse, but do decide to spend more on the neutral, functional (or fun colored, if thats your personality) purse over the cheetah print crossbody. Always choose to spend more on the things you use the most and you will never regret it. I purchased my black Tory crossbody 3 years ago and I do not regret it to this day.

6. Trendy looks ($)

Never ever ever purchase a trendy look and spend more than $60 on it. Unless you have tons of money, then do. But if you are like me, i.e. not rich, do not spend more than that one trendy looks. For example, the suede trend that is going on right now will pass. The fringe trend will pass. Just like the bow-back tops, the chevron, and the bauble necklace, the trend will pass and you will feel silly for spending that much on that item. One way to avoid doing that and still getting in on the trend is to buy an inexpensive version from forever 21 or old navy or another boutique that may sell the look you are looking for. For example, the fringe bootie trend is huge right now but I knew it wouldn't be next year. So, I got these booties and they will probably last me this season-but thats okay with me. Next year at this time if the trend is still around and I still like it I will maybe spend more on the look.

7. Watch ($$$)

Even though my watch isn't that expensive in the big scheme of things (ahem, Rolex's cost like how much?), but at roughly $200 it is the perfect item for you to "splurge" on. If you are like me and wear a watch every day, you need to go ahead and buy one you absolutely love that is a little pricier. This is the one that I have and this year will be two years of having it. I honestly cannot tell that it is that old. I have worn it almost every day since I purchased it and it has been such an amazing purchase. A watch is something I definitely recommend spending more on, and just having in general. Wearing a watch says "I care about being punctual". Also, another tip about trendy watches, I will admit I did not think the oversized watch trend would stick around, but it is clearly here to stay. So, definitely go for one at a good size and don't worry about it going away.

8. Wallet ($$$)

This is a huge one too...though most might think this isn't a "wardrobe" essential...that is so not true. Lets be real here: how many times a day do you whip out your wallet? At least once a day. What else besides your intimates can you say that about?? You use this and look at it so much you might as well make it pretty, am I right? Personally, I love my Hobo wallet. I've had it for a year now and I absolutely adore it. Though I love the look of Tory's and Kate's, Hobo is just so realistic for a college student or anyone who likes to just carry a wallet sometimes. I love it because it has enough room for me to put my phone in and all my receipts and like every single store card you could think of. I mean the pockets and slots are endless. Also you can find them on sale alot on sites like 6PM and you can find them on amazon (older styles) cheaper too.

9. Vests ($)

This one is kind of iffy. If you are going to be wearing them alot, obviously go for the more expensive one. But honestly its one of those things where I (surprisingly because I very rarely do this) would rather have quantity over quality. This may be different who lives up north and wears them alot but here in Georgia I don't need them too often. I like to spend around $50-$70 on my vests. I feel that they are very memorable and it is noticeable that I have worn them like twice in one week.

10. Boots ($$$)

Always opt for the more expensive boots. I think anywhere from $50-$400 is a good price range. On the lower end I normally purchase ones I don't see myself wearing all the time (ones of specific color schemes, high heeled, special occasion) and I spend higher amounts on boots I can wear alot more (riding boots, ankle booties that I wear often to work). If you know you are going to wear them alot, spend the money. Also, something I have learned is that you should never buy 2 colors at the same time. ALWAYS try them out before doing this. How can you truly love them all the way until you have walked a mile in them??

11. Leggings ($$$)

Okay, so I know what you are thinking. Spend a lot on leggings, whaaa?? Yeah, just one month ago I would have called me crazy too. But then I got my hands on these Lysse leggings and it rocked my world. Before, I literally had like 5 pairs of leggings and their color would fade within 3 washes. I hated it! They never, ever looked as sleek as I wanted them to. These Lysse leggings are amazing because they are a ponte pant (thats right-pant) so you can wear them as pants! They suck everything in so you don't have to worry one little bit about your tush showing a bit. But, if you arent quite convinced yet, they sell ponte pants at target and Walmart so you can try them out before you bite the bullet and buy these bad boys. But, trust me, you can purchase them and wear them a week straight so dont you worry, you'll get your moneys worth.

12. Rain boots ($$$)

I'm sure many of you already own these pretty rain boots, but for those of you who don't, here are some reasons you should purchase this specific brand or another brand that will last you a little longer than your average rain boot. I have had my Hunter boots for 3 years now and I will tell you, they have gotten SO much use in that time. Unless you live where it doesn't rain but maybe 2 times a year, it will rain where you live. It does where I live and believe me, I love when I can pull these pretties out. Take it from me though, purchase a neutral color. Grey, black, navy...whichever you think will go with more. But for your first pair chose a color that is easy to coordinate with your wardrobe. Otherwise, you will constantly find yourself regretting your decision. I already  have a pair of black, and for Christmas I asked for the Chelsea boot in (what do you know) black! I just wear so much black it makes sense for me to get the color again.

WOW. That was a lot. But I am so incredibly glad I finally got down (almost) everything I feel every young woman should have in their winter wardrobe!

Big News: War Eagle 2016

Hey Guys!

Today's post is a little different as I am sharing a little bit more personal news than usual. I am so excited to share that as of today, I am officially an Auburn Tiger! I will be transferring from my current school in Augusta, Georgia, about 4 hours to the city of Auburn to attend school at the most beautiful campus I have ever laid eyes on! I will be transferring Fall of 2016, and I could not be more excited. Those who know me (or heck, even follow me-hence the blog) know that I really do have a "passion for fashion" and know that being apart of an apparel merchandising program has been a dream of mine for quite some time now. I will still have some classes to take before I can begin the program, but I am so ready to be taking classes that can prepare me for my future in the fashion industry. So, here's to the future and here's to Auburn University, WAR EAGLE!

{ sorority recruitment breakdown + tips }

Hello, hello, hello!

I have decided to put together everything I have learned from my experience of going greek! I want to share the highs and the lows, from recruitment all the way to spring formal, so read along as I break down sorority recruitment and sisterhood in general.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

RECRUITMENT

As some of you may or may not know, I myself went through recruitment this past fall as an incoming freshman. At my school, recruitment is a little different in that it is not the week before the first day of classes, but rather two to three weeks in. Honestly, I feel like it is more beneficial to go through a little later because it gives you some time to get situated and get to know your schedule before you get caught up in the world-wind that is recruitment. 

Personally however, my first two weeks of school were miserable. I knew some people but even then there were no exciting, college moments that I had hoped for. For me, it was a lesser, more empty version of high school. Prior to school beginning I had actually almost backed out of going through because I thought I couldn't handle it. I am SO happy I didn't. I have created so many lifelong friendships through my sorority, and not only that but connections and great memories.

Pictured above is Selma and I, one of the sweet girls I became close with during recruitment! We were accidentally twinning on our final day of recruitment, Preference Day/Night. Selma and I ended up finding different homes, but I truly believe we ended up where we were supposed to! Preference was definitely my favorite round because you get down to the bones of each sorority and get a true feel for who the girls are. Without all the loud chants and decorations you are able to finally sit down and realize "this is where I belong". I always thought that that would not happen for me, that I would be the one freaking out the night before bid day but I can honestly say that at the end of Preference I knew exactly what I wanted.

The most amazing feeling on bid day was running to so many new people, and knowing that would be okay because one day soon they would be your sisters and best friends. Recruitment is a crazy hectic time but it is rewarding. Bid day is probably one of my favorite days to look back on. You have no idea what you are in for, and its so exciting.

Big Diamond/Little Diamond Reveal

Most people going into recruitment don't realize how many fun things are to come. Sisterhood trips, socials to dance the night away, and finding your niche in the sorority with your "big". Big Diamond/Little Diamond Reveal is probably on the top of my list of memories. Its very much talked about and known among the sorority world how big of a deal your big is, but actually getting your very own is so much better than you can expect. Your big is more than your friend or bff, they are your mentor through your period as a new member. I was lucky enough to have a twin and that girl became my best friend! The best thing about being in a sorority is just when you think you know everyone, you realize there are so many more people to get to know and love. Hannah and I had known eachother but never got close until we had something in common, we loved our big diamond, Marisa!

Bid Day Spring 2015

Sisterhood is not only fun trips and socials, it can also be very rewarding. My spring semester I decided to participate in our schools annual Lip Sync competition. We worked so. so hard and in the end we won! It was so rewarding to win something not only for yourself, or your team, but your sorority. Almost every school has a competition like this or similar to this for their greek life or student life in general. But, if dancing or fake singing are not your thing taking a position is a SUPER great way to make an impression on your sorority and grow as a person. My spring semester I became my sorority's New Member Coordinator . This meant that I had the role of planning bid day for Spring and Fall 2015, and helping new members through the process that is becoming a full sister. Having a position in a sorority is a rewarding experience that can only further enrich your experience in a sorority.

Sorority life can also be fulfill many charitable roles in ones life. My sorority in particular partners with the Ronald McDonald House Charities all over the country as our national philanthropy. Each panhellenic sorority has a specific philanthropy that they are involved with and each chapter is responsible for raising money for that charitable organization.

So here I am today, almost a full year after recruitment! Getting ready for our upcoming recruitment and bid day has been such an exciting time! Now that I've talked about my own personal experience with recruitment and sorority life in general, I'd like to give some tips if you are thinking about going through recruitment!

1) As cliche as it sounds, please please PLEASE be yourself. At the end of the day, those girls you are talking to are the girls that could be by your side on your wedding day, the girls you will call at 2 am when you are tired and you need a study break, they are the girls that will be with you forever. They are your sisters. So do yourself a favor and be real and yourself because if you aren't, you don't know if you ended up where you were supposed to be.

2) The best way to find your home is to pick the group of girls that you could see yourself going to the beach with the very next day. The girls you feel comfortable around and see yourself having a good time with.

3) Have fun! Embrace every aspect of recruitment. This experience is once of a lifetime and you can truly enjoy this time and appreciate how great it is to be meeting so many new people! 

RECOMMENDED OUTFITS FOR RECRUITMENT 

 Day/Night One: Go for something that is easy to change out of as most schools will provide a shirt for you to wear the first night. A solid short would be nice with light jewelry and comfy sandals.

Day 2/Night Two: For this outfit I would make it dressier than the first day, more on casual side still. A cute skirt with a top and jacks/sandals would be perfect to walk from house to house (or room to room for me!).

Day/Night 3: Each night of recruitment gets dressier and dressier. Try to pick something that will make your personality come out. A cute shift dress or maxi would be nice and comfy. Maybe dress it out with some nice wedges or heels!

Preference Day/Night: Some schools have more than 3/4 days (mine only had 3!) so there may be one more outfit in there, but I would just a lighter cocktail dress if so! This dress is meant to really wow YOUR preferences and make them see who you really are. The dress is above is the actual dress I wore for my Preference round! I loved how bright and me it was!

Bid Day: AHH! This is the most exciting part of all the days. So wear shorts that are easy to wear with your new sororitys shirts they supply you! You wont know until you are given your bid what type of shirt you will be wearing so as a reference to the first day, wear a solid colored short. Denim, white, and black are great go to's for this! High waisted shorts are always really fun and can be worn really cute no matter what theme your sorority will be having that day!
